UNESCO Chair on Knowledge Systems for Integrated Water Resources Management was awarded to COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Wah Campus, by the Education Sector at the UNESCO HQ, Paris, vide their letter No. ED/THE/HED/14/024 dated 05 February 2014. The Agreement between UNESCO and COMSATS Institute of Information Technology was signed between Director General UNESCO and Rector COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) on 06 February 2014 in Islamabad at the office of the Federal Minister for Science and Technology during the Director General’s official visit to Pakistan.
The Chair links with UNESCO’s International Hydrological Programme and creates a pole of excellence in Integrated Water Resources Management to meet the Millennium Development Goals and addresses UNESCO’s priority to Pakistan, Asia Pacific, Africa and gender equality. The Chair’s work will involve both South-South (Pakistan, East Asia and West Africa) and North-South (Poland, Pakistan and West Africa) training and knowledge transfer, with a special focus on capacity building for women.
